If you
belong to the group of people who are suffering from problems with an increased
weight and large belly, today we give you the recipe that will help you to
solve the problem.
You should
take a cup of boiling water. Add one teaspoon of ground cumin in it. Then add 1
teaspoon grated lemon crust and a quarter teaspoon of cinnamon as well as a
teaspoon of ginger. You can add a spoonful of honey, but that is optional. You
have to drink this on an empty stomach at least 3 times a day and watch your
pounds disappear.
What is the
secret ingredient in this recipe?
Cumin is
high in antioxidants and phytosterols. Phytosterols are natural substances of
plant origin. They are just like cholesterol in their structure and function.
They prevent the absorption of harmful cholesterol in the digestive tract,
which could be the reason for their weight-reducing effect.
Past
clinical trials have demonstrated that consumption of foods that are rich with
at least 0.8 grams of plant sterols or stanols lowers the levels of LDL
cholesterol.
The
potential that cumin seeds have for dieting was revealed in a study published
in the journal Complimentary Therapies in Clinical Practice. Utilizing this
spice can help you lose weight faster and can impact the body’s fat profile in
a positive way by reducing the levels of harmful lipids in the blood.
Research on
cumin and body fat
In a study
conducted by Iranian scientists from the Shahid Sadoughi University of Medical
Sciences 88 women were included. They were considered overweight or obese in
their study. The women were divided into two groups.
One group
ate 3 grams of cumin powder daily, mixed into 5 grams of yogurt.
The control
group consumed yogurt too, but without any additions.
Both groups
received dietary advice and reduced their daily caloric intake by 500 calories.
Study
results
Before the
study and after 3 months of dieting different body measurements and parameters
were taken. Women who ate cumin, lost 3 pounds (1.4 kilograms).
The members
of the cumin group reduced the percentage of body fat by 14.64%—almost triple
the 4.91% loss posted by the control group—because of the addition of the
fat-burning spice.
The women
in the treatment group also experienced decreased levels of fasting
cholesterol, triglycerides (a type of fat associated with atherosclerosis,
heart disease and diabetes) and LDL (bad) cholesterol. Also, their levels of
HDL (good) cholesterol increased.
Additionally,
the ladies who consumed cumin had larger reductions in body mass index and
waist circumference.
